Added three links for students

I have added three links that Students might find useful. They are Citation Machine Quizlet Purdue OWL: Online Writing Lab . Citation Machine is a Citation generator, Quizlet allows you to create your own study guides/practices quizzes, and Purdue OWL teaches you various ways to cite in different styles (teaches you how to NOT plagiarize. Very important in the academic world, especially if you don't fancy being expelled from your university or sued.)

Random musing

Don't trust anyone who dislikes ketchup or raw chocolate chip cookie dough. There is clearly something wrong going on in their brains.  ;)

If you live near water, especially on the west coast and surrounding areas, it's important to read this.

We have a dog and a few minutes ago,  we were warned of a blue-green algae bloom. I know of the red tide but this one is new to me. Anyway,  can be toxic so you might want to check this out, especially if you,  your kids, or your pets are near/in water this time of year.

Midnight musings...I'm seeing a trend in my posting times -_-

Well, another night of being awake when I don't want to be. School starts up again on Monday so I'm sure the stress of that is contributing to the recent bout of insomnia. Anyway, if anyone else is awake at this ridiculous hour and is looking for something to get lost in (other than this blog, of course, which admittedly you'd have a very short journey since I just started this thing less than a week ago), you might be interested in checking out one of my favorite blogs http://www.theuglyvolvo.com/. If you're a parent, a mom especially, this should tickle you. I love this lady's humor! Anyway, off to do math problems in my head - that usually knocks me right out!

G'Night Neverland! But first, I'll leave you with this!

Finished big shell sleep sack

As promised,  here is the finished sleep sack. I don't usually like to crochet certain things in only one color so I kept with the rose and white color scheme of the hat, mitts, and booties. In the original pattern, the creator used one color (golden rod?). I used the rose for the bottom 12 rows, switched to white for the main body,  and then finished it off with a simple SC border.

Yes that is a diaper wipe, no it's not used. Peanut got into the wipes bin again. She likes to "blow her nose" on "napkins". (read: wipe the top of her lip once and discard the tissue/wipe/papertowel/etc. on the floor or anywhere else close by).

*After-thought on this pattern: I'm thinking maybe I'll make an adult sized sleep sack for the couch X-D. What do you think?

Midnight(ish) musing.

Anyone who offers up Wikipedia as a credible source for information has completely lost their argument with me... at least temporarily, until they stop being lazy and do some real research. More people need to go to college *smh*

Drooling!

Got to try making these.

Pagan Black salt

I've never used the stuff and have,  oddly, never heard of it before but it makes a ton of sense. So,  off to confiscate Peanut's black chalk and (finally) clean out my fireplace I go! Sometimes procrastinating comes in handy!  X-D

This is why I don't trust strangers with my kid. I'm lucky enough to have the opportunity to stay home with my child. It's this type of thing that scares me.

Random musings

Bear with me. The later it gets, the more sentimental I get.

Peanut fell asleep in my bed. Nightmares again.  It's the first time since we stopped nursing. .. it's the first time she's ever fallen asleep in our bed when NOT nursing,  for that matter. As I put her into her crib I marveled,  yet again, on just what it means to truly love someone. So this is what true, unconditional love feels like. I mean, i thought i knew what love was, but then I had our daughter and the love I've known (and i do, and know how, to love,  lol) doesn't compare in its purity or intensity. The thought of going one minute without her in my life just about kills me and for the first time in my life,  I have met someone for whom I would rather die than live without. . .
And that's how I knew I was ready to be a parent. ;)

Random musing

Watching the "Steve goes to college" episode of blue's clues and i must say. .. so many feels! How is that possible?!

Neither Peanut nor I are quite sure of how to feel about Steve's brother, Joe, however.

Latest baby gift - Crochet Sleep Sack

Big Shell Sleep Sack, Cap, and Mitts

http://suzies-yarnie-stuff.blogspot.com/2010/08/bssscm.html?m=1

Okay, so while watching "The FBI Files" on Netflix, I decided to crochet a baby gift for a girlfriend of mine. (What can I say, I love true crime shows like teens love Glee. It's not weird...really...) I have a ton of scrap yarn lying around left over from various projects. I have already made a hat and booty set for my girlfriend, but it's summer break, I'm not planning on having another child for at least another year, and there are only so many doilies, blankets, socks, and slippers one family needs. Thanks to what I affectionately term "baby season", I have plenty of people to crochet for. Following this pattern, I worked up a set of mitts and am currently in the process of working up the sleep sack.

This particular set is really easy to work up and I really enjoyed doing it. I would rate this project at probably about a 2 on a 1-5 difficulty scale. The instructions are written in a way that is easy to understand, though I would have liked it if there were a visual guide to follow as well as the text format.

For the hat and booties, I used the "blue and ivory striped hat" and the "ivory and green booties" patterns from Crochet in a Day by Candi Jensen. Instead of ivory and blue/green yarn, I chose to use white and rose for all four items (hat, mitts, booties, and sleep sack).

I hope you enjoy this project as much as I am. Happy hooking!

(Pictures of my creations of this particular pattern are to follow.)
